Muslim Holiday Of Eid Moves One Step Closer To Being Observed In Bernards Schools

On Monday night, the Board of Education passed the first reading of the new school district calendar.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — The Muslim holiday of Eid is one step closer to being added to the Bernards Township School District calendar.

During the Monday night Board of Education meeting, the first reading of the 2026-27 School District Calendar was approved.

The new calendar adds Eid as an observed holiday for the school district beginning for the 2026-27 school year.

Superintendent Nick Markarian said a second reading and final passage of the calendar will be in December.

There are two major Islamic holidays celebrated around the globe. The first is Eid al-Fitr which marks the end of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting, and the second is Eid al-Adah, according to History.com.
