Environmental Education Center Programs

Programs April 3 to 9, 2017

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

PARENT/CHILD PROGRAMS

Thursday, April 6 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

ADULT & FAMILY PROGRAMS

Forest Fitness Tuesdays

Tuesdays, April 4, 11, 18, and 25 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M.

Adults are invited to join a weekly walking group, enjoying nature along

the level trails of Lord Stirling Park.

Fee is $20 for the 4-day session.

Bluebird Walk

Wednesday, April 5 from 10:30 A.M. to 12:00 Noon

Family and friends of all ages will join a Naturalist for a walk on the trails

of Lord Stirling Park to seek the beautiful eastern bluebird on its

spring migration.

Fee is $9 per person.

Ben’s Birding Basics – NEW – FREE PROGRAM

Saturday, April 8 from 1:30 P.M. to 3:00 P.M.

Family and friends (age 8 years and older with parent) will join a

Naturalist to learn about finding and identifying birds in New

Jersey through a lecture and field application of the learned skills.

Theme is “Finding Birds in the Field.”

The program is free but pre-registration is required.

Salamander Adventure at Lord Stirling Park

Sunday, April 9 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:30 P.M.

Family and friends of all ages will enjoy a hike around Lord Stirling Park

in search of salamanders running across the rocks and logs.

Fee is $9 per person.

“The Great Swamp Experience” on the lower lever at the EEC features interactive

displays, vignettes, taxidermy, and archeological artifacts highlighting the history

and ecology of the Great Swamp. The exhibit is open 7 days a week from 9:00

A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Admission is free.

Please note that dog walking is not permitted on the trails at the Environmental Education Center.
