Environmental Education Center Programs

Progams May 1 to May 7, 2017

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

PARENT/CHILD PROGRAMS

Young Explorers Club

Children ages 5 to 7 who are enrolled in kindergarten and first grade will

Wild Kids

Sundays, May 7, 14, 21, and 28 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children age infant to 5 with a parent will cure cabin fever on an

exploration of the Great Swamp using the five senses to explore

the natural world.

Fee is $30 per pair for the 4-day session and $15 per additional child.

CHILDREN/TEEN PROGRAMS

World Series of Birding – NEW PROGRAM!

Saturday, May 6 from 5:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M.

Children ages 12 to 15 are invited to participate in the largest and most

prestigious birding competition in the country. The World Series of Birding occurs every year in New Jersey and calls upon the toughest and brightest birders compete as part of the New Jersey Audubon's Scherman-Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary and the Environmental Education Center team. Forest Fitness Tuesdays

Tuesdays, May 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M.

Adults are invited to join a weekly walking group, enjoying nature along

the level trails of Lord Stirling Park.

Fee is $25 for the 5-day session.

Field Trips for the Fun at Heart – Bronx Zoo & Animal Babies

Thursday, May 4 from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

Join a Naturalist on a day trip to the Bronx Zoo with over 4,000 species on

display.

Fee is $75 per adult and $65 per senior.

Woodland Wildflowers - FREE PROGRAM

Friday, May 5 from 1:30 P.M. to 2:30 P.M.

Adults will join a Naturalist for a leisurely walk through Lord Stirling

Park in search of wildflowers carpeting the forest floor.

Program is free.

“The Great Swamp Experience” on the lower lever at the EEC features

interactive displays, vignettes, taxidermy, and archeological artifacts highlighting

the history and ecology of the Great Swamp. The exhibit is open 7 days a week

from 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Admission is free.

Please note that dog walking is not permitted on the trails at the Environmental Education Center.
