Environmental Education Center Programs

June 12 to June 18, 2017

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

PARENT/CHILD PROGRAMS

Animal Babies

Friday, June 16 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children age infant to 5 with a parent will learn how animal parents raise

Fee is $10 per pair and $5 per additional child

ADULT/FAMILY PROGRAMS

Birding at Sterling Forest and Doodletown – NEW PROGRAM!

Wednesday, June 14 from 6:30 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.

Join a Naturalist on a trip to New York State to look for the area’s most

habitual warblers including the declining Golden-winger Warbler

in Sterling Forest. At the historic town of Doodletown. Expect to

see and hear the Cerulean Warbler, Worm-eating Warbler, Hooded

Warbler, and Kentucky Warbler.

Fee is $50 per adult and $40 per senior.

Introduction to Bird Sketching and Drawing – NEW PROGRAM!

Saturday, June 17 from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M.

Family and friends age 8 and older (with parent) will head out on the trails

to practice field sketching before returning to the EEC to review

basic skills and techniques.

Fee is $$12 per person.

“The Great Swamp Experience,” on the lower level at the EEC, features interactive displays, vignettes, taxidermy, and archeological artifacts highlighting the history and ecology of the Great Swamp. The exhibit is open 7 days a week from 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Admission Is free.

Please note that dog walking is not permitted on the trails at the Environmental Education Center.
