Environmental Education Center Programs

July 24 to 30, 2017

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

Raindrops to Rainbows

Tuesday, July 25 from 10:30 A.M. to 12:00 Noon

Children age 4 to 6 will learn how, when, and why rainbows form,

Experimenting with the color spectrum and prisms.

Xtreme Adventure - Kayak

Wednesday, July 26 from 7:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.

Adventurers age 13 to 16 will travel to the New Jersey Pine Barrens and

learn how to wet exit a kayak. And learn proper paddle skills.

Fee is $75 per person.

Saturday, July 29 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Family and friends will enjoy a Naturalist-led interpretive walk

Whitewater Beginnings

Friday, July 28 from 7:30 A.M. to 8:30 P.M.

Kayakers age 15 and over will have an opportunity to take their skills to

another level on a trip to Lackawaxen River, Class 1-11

whitewater. Prior participation in at least two, 4-miles or less river

trips required.

Fee is $75 per person.

“The Great Swamp Experience,” on the lower level at the EEC, features interactive displays, vignettes, taxidermy, and archeological artifacts highlighting the history and ecology of the Great Swamp. The exhibit is open 7 days a week from 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Admission Is free.

Please note that dog walking is not permitted on the trails at the Environmental Education Center.
