
The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

leisurely walk along the trails of Lord Stirling Park to enjoy the
natural beauty of spring in New Jersey.

Wild Kids
Sundays, September17, and 24 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.
Children age infant to 5 with a parent will cure cabin fever on an
exploration of the Great Swamp using the five senses to explore
the natural world.

Hawk Watch Hike at the EEC– FREE PROGRAM
Friday, September 15 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M.
Family and friends of all ages will join a Naturalist to hike the trails of the
Great Swamp with an eye out for migrating birds of prey.
The program is free. Pre-registration is required.

Bird Walks
Saturday, September 16 from 7:00 A.M. to 9:00 A.M.
Adults will join a Naturalist on a stroll around the grounds of the EEC
seeking out the many migrant birds that pass through the area.
The walk is free and registration is not required.
Fossil Hunt – NEW PROGRAM!
Saturday, September 16 from 8:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.
Family and friends age 12 and older will join a Naturalist on a day trip to
collect classic Devonian fossils including brachipods, sponges, and
more, all found in the loose roadside gravel.
Fee is $40 per adult and $35 per student of senior..

Family Nature Walk – FREE PROGRAM
Saturday, September 16 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.
Family and friends will enjoy a Naturalist-led interpretive walk
through the Great Swamp.

“The Great Swamp Experience,” on the lower level at the EEC, features interactive displays, vignettes, taxidermy, and archeological artifacts highlighting the history and ecology of the Great Swamp. The exhibit is open 7 days a week from 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Admission Is free.
Please note that dog walking is not permitted on the trails at the Environmental Education Center.
