Environmental Education Center Programs

November 6 to 12, 2017

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

CHILDREN & TEEN PROGRAMS

Mondays, November 6, 13, 20, and 27 from 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.

Children ages 5 to 7 who are enrolled in kindergarten and first grade will

Cool Critters

Thursday, November 9 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. or

Thursday, November 9 from 1:30 P.M. to 2:30 P.M.

Children age 5 to 10 will meet creatures including Pete the praying mantis,

Rosie the red rump tarantula, a gorgeous gecko named Smooth,

hissing cockroaches from Madagascar, and a special surprise guest.

PARENT/CHILD PROGRAMS

Young Explorers Club

Mondays, November 6, 13, 20, and 27 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children age infant to 5 with a parent will experience the wonders of

nature through outdoor activities that stimulate the five senses.

Fee is $30 per pair and $15 per additional child for the 4-day session.

ADULT & FAMILY PROGRAMS

Field Trips for the Young at Heart – Lambert Castle & Garret Mountain Sampler – NEW PROGRAM!

Wednesday, November 9 from 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.

Adults will spend the day with a Naturalist to sample some of Paterson,

New Jersey’s treasures including Garret Mountain, Great Falls, and

Lambert Castle including a visit to the Castle’s Holiday Boutique.

Fee is $60 per adult and $50 per senior.

Family Nature Walk – FREE PROGRAM

Saturday, November 11 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Family and friends will enjoy a Naturalist-led interpretive walk

through the Great Swamp.

The program is free and pre-registration is not required.

Birds of the World Bonanza – NEW PROGRAM!

Saturday, November 11 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M.

Join EEC Naturalists for a one-hour lecture on birds – poisonous birds;

birds that fly when asleep; birds that migrate 50,000 miles each

year; and many other remarkable stories.

The program is free.

Family Nature Walk – FREE PROGRAM

Sunday, November 12 from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 P.M.

Family and friends will enjoy a Naturalist-led interpretive walk

through the Great Swamp.

The program is free and pre-registration is not required.

“The Great Swamp Experience,” on the lower level at the EEC, features interactive displays, vignettes, taxidermy, and archeological artifacts highlighting the history and ecology of the Great Swamp. The exhibit is open 7 days a week from 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Admission Is free.

Please note that dog walking is not permitted on the trails at the Environmental Education Center.
