Environmental Education Center Programs in Basking Ridge

The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature as summer draws to a close in Somerset County. Snakes on a Plain

Friday, September 25 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children age infant to 5 with a parent will join a Naturalist to explore the

lives of snakes from all over the world and their adaptability to

different environments.

Fee is $10 per pair and $5 per additional child

The Green Team – FREE PROGRAM

Saturday, September 26 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.

Children ages 12 to 15 who have to fulfill a community service

requirement for school will enjoy the educational and fun activities

at the Environmental Education Center.

ADULT & FAMILY PROGRAMS

Explore Island Beach State Park – NEW!

Thursday, September 24 from 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

Adults will join Naturalists on an exploration of the wild life in the salt

marsh at the edge of the ocean at Island Beach State Park.

Fee is $50 per adult and $40 per senior.

Fall Wildflowers – NEW! – FREE PROGRAM

Friday, September 25 from 10:30 to 12:00 Noon

Adults will join a Naturalist for a leisurely walk through Lord Stirling

Park in search of the wildflowers of autumn.

The program is free.

Lily Pad Ponding

Saturday, September 26 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Family and friends of all ages will join a Naturalist to examine the life

above and below the surface of Lily Pad Pond, home to turtles,

frogs, dragonflies, and more.

Fee is $6 per person.

Family Nature Walk – FREE PROGRAM

Saturday, September 26 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Sunday, September 27 from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 P.M.

Family and friends will enjoy a Naturalist-led interpretive walk

through the Great Swamp.

The program is free and pre-registration is not required.

Wild Plant Walk

Sunday, September 27 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.

Family and friends age 10 and older with a parent are invited to walk the

trails at the Environmental Education Center with Jared

Rosenbaum, owner of Wild Ridge Plants, to learn about wild

edible and medicinal plants.

Fee is $10 per adult and $8 per youth or senior.

Blue “BOBO (Buy One – Bring One) Fridays” bins now are located at the Environmental Education Center and Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge, as well as at the Somerset County Park Commission headquarters at North Branch Park in Bridgewater. The public is invited to drop off canned food or personal-care items for donation to Somerset County food banks.
