Environmental Education Center Programs in Basking Ridge

The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature as fall arrives in Somerset County. Young Explorers Club

Mondays, October 5, 19, and 26 from 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.

Children ages 5 to 7, who are enrolled in kindergarten and first grade will

study science and explore the natural world through games,

Tree House Gang

Thursdays, October 8, 15, 22, and 29 from 12:45 P.M. to 3:15 P.M.

Children ages 3 to 5 will be entertained and educated at these afternoon

science and nature classes. Program will include hikes, hands-on

activities, interacting with live animals, and creating crafts.

Fee is $65 per person for the 4-day session

Thursday, October 8 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children age infant to 5 with a parent will learn about creatures whose

bones are on the inside and on the outside.

River Rats

Saturdays, October 10, 17, 24, and 31 from 10:30 A.M. to 12:00 Noon

Children age 5 to 8 will enjoy a weekend learning adventure, joining a

Naturalist for a themed exploration of the Great Swamp.

The Green Team – FREE PROGRAM

Saturday, October 10 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.

Children ages 12 to 15 who have to fulfill a community service

requirement for school will enjoy the educational and fun activities

at the Environmental Education Center.

Birding at Duke Island Park

Thursday, October 8 from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M.

Adult birders will meet a Naturalist at Duke Island Park in Bridgewater for

a morning of bird watching along the Raritan River.

Sunday Forest Fitness

Sundays, October 11, 18, and 25 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M.

Adults are invited to join a Sunday morning walking group, enjoying nature along

Blue “BOBO (Buy One – Bring One) Fridays” bins now are located at the Environmental Education Center and Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge, as well as at the Somerset County Park Commission headquarters at North Branch Park in Bridgewater. The public is invited to drop off canned food or personal-care items for donation to Somerset County food banks.
