Environmental Education Center Programs

January 11 to 17, 2016

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature during autumn in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

CHILDREN & TEEN PROGRAMS

Penguin Party

Friday, January 15 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children age infant to 5 and a parent will learn about different types of

penguins, where they live, what they eat, and much more.

Fee is $10 per pair and $5 per additional child

The Green Team – FREE PROGRAM

Saturday, January 16 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.

Children ages 12 to 15 - Is natural science a subject you find interesting?

Do you like the outdoors? Is the Great Swamp a place you like to

visit? If so, join the Environmental Education Center Naturalists

and contribute your talents to fun and educational projects and

special events.

Pre-registration is required.

ADULT & FAMILY PROGRAMS

Nature Through A Child’s Eye – FREE PROGRAM

Now through Sunday, February 7 from 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M daily except holidays

The entire family will enjoy the annual environment and nature art show featuring works from children from kindergarten through grade six in Somerset County schools.

Admission is free.

Family Nature Walk – FREE PROGRAM

Saturday, January 16 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Family and friends will enjoy a Naturalist-led interpretive walk

through the Great Swamp.

The program is free and pre-registration is not required.

Family and friends will enjoy a Naturalist-led interpretive walk

Introduction to Cross Country Skiing

Saturday, January 16 from 1:30 P.M. to 3:00 P.M.

Family and friends (age 10 years and older with parent) will learn the

basics of cross-country skiing including clothing, equipment,

preconditioning, safety, and places to ski

Fee is $11 per adult and $9 per youth or senior.

Staying Warm

Sunday, January 17 from 2:00 P.M. to 3:30 P.M.

Family and friends of all ages will join a Naturalist to learn how different

kinds of animals can stay warm during the coldest times of year
