Environmental Education Center Programs

February 1 to 7, 2016

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature during winter in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

CHILDREN, TEEN, & PARENT/CHILD PROGRAMS

Young Explorers Club

Mondays, February 1, 8, 22, and 29 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children age infant to 5 with a parent will experience the wonders of

nature through outdoor activities that stimulate the five senses.

Fee is $30 per pair and $15 per additional child for the 4-day session.

KinderNats

Mondays, February 1, 8, 22, and 29 from 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.

Children ages 5 to 7 who are enrolled in kindergarten and first grade will

study science and explore the natural world through games,

Naturalist-led activities, and more.

Fee is $24 per person for the 4-day session.

Tree House Gang

Tuesdays, February 2, 9, 16, and 23 from 12:45 P.M. to 3:15 P.M.

Children ages 3 to 5 will be entertained and educated at these afternoon

science and nature classes. Program will include hikes, hands-on

activities, and interacting with live animals.

Fee is $65 per person for either 4-day session

Story Hour – FREE PROGRAM

Saturday, February 6 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children ages infant to 5 with a parent will listen to a Naturalist read an

environmental-based story and enjoy a short walk on the trails of

the EEC.

The program is free.

ADULT & FAMILY PROGRAMS

Nature Through A Child’s Eye – FREE PROGRAM

Now through Sunday, February 7 from 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M daily except holidays

The entire family will enjoy the annual environment and nature art show featuring works from children from kindergarten through grade six in Somerset County schools.

Admission is free.

Forest Fitness

Tuesdays, February 2, 9, 16, and 23 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M.

Adults are invited to join a weekly walking group, enjoying nature along

the level trails of Lord Stirling Park.

Fee is $20 for the 4-day session.

Snowshoe Hike – FREE PROGRAM

Wednesday, February 3 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:30 P.M.

Family and friends of all ages will join a Naturalist for some snowshoeing

on the trails at the Environmental Education Center. A limited

number of snowshoes available so bring your own.

Program is free.

Backyard Birds

Saturday, February 6 from 1:30 P.M. to 2:30 P.M.

Family and friends of all ages will learn about the feathered friends who

visit our backyards, learning about their adaptability, how to name

them, and what to feed them.

Family Nature Walk – FREE PROGRAM

Sunday, February 7 from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 P.M.

Family and friends will enjoy a Naturalist-led interpretive walk

through the Great Swamp.

The program is free and pre-registration is not required.
