Environmental Education Center Programs

March 7 to 13, 2016

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature during winter in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

CHILDREN, TEEN, & PARENT/CHILD PROGRAMS

Young Explorers Club

Mondays, March 7, 14, 21, and 28 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children age infant to 5 with a parent will experience the wonders of

nature through outdoor activities that stimulate the five senses.

Fee is $30 per pair and $15 per additional child for the 4-day session.

KinderNats

Mondays, March 7, 14, 21, and 28 from 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.

Children ages 5 to 7 who are enrolled in kindergarten and first grade will

study science and explore the natural world through games,

Naturalist-led activities, and more.

Fee is $24 per person for the 4-day session.

Animal Sounds

Friday, March 11 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children age infant to 5 with a parent will join a Naturalist for a hike and

games to learn how to identify different animal sounds.

Fee is $10 per pair and $5 per additional child.

The Green Team – FREE PROGRAM

Saturday, March 12 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.

Children ages 12 to 15 who would like to contribute their talents in a

positive way will enjoy the educational and fun activities

at the Environmental Education Center.

ADULT & FAMILY PROGRAMS

Maple Sugaring

Saturday & Sunday, February 27 & 28; March 5 & 6; 12 & 13. at

10:00 A.M, 12:00 Noon & 2:00 P.M. on Saturdays & 12:00

Noon and 2:00 P.M. on Sundays

Everyone is invited to see how trees are tapped, how sap is collected, and witness the boiling process that produces delicious New Jersey maple syrup. Schools and organized groups may arrange for

weekday demonstrations by calling 908-766-2489.

Suggested donation of $1 per person.

Pre-registration is not required for individuals and families. Groups are encouraged to call ahead.

Garden Discovery Tour - Philadelphia Flower Show

Tuesday, March 8 from 7:15 A.M. to 5:30 P.M.

Family and friends are invited to join EEC Naturalists on a day trip to the

Philadelphia Flower Show. Theme of the show is a celebration of

the centennial of the Unites States National Park Service.

Fee is $85 per adult & $75 per senior.

Winter Walking in the Pines

Sunday, March 13 from 8:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.

Adults will enjoy a leisurely Naturalist-led walk through the New Jersey Pine Barrens, with visits to local attractions that may include Whitesbog Village, the Everet Nature Trail, the Franklin Parker Preserve or Lebanon State Forest.

Fee is $50 per adult and $40 per senior.
