Environmental Education Center Programs

March 14 to 20, 2016

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature as spring arrives in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

ADULT & FAMILY PROGRAMS

Maple Sugaring

Saturday & Sunday, March 5 & 6; 12 & 13. at 10:00 A.M, 12:00 Noon

& 2:00 P.M. on Saturdays & 12:00 Noon and 2:00 P.M. on

Sundays

Everyone is invited to see how trees are tapped, how sap is collected, and witness the boiling process that produces delicious New Jersey maple syrup. Schools and organized groups may arrange for

weekday demonstrations by calling 908-766-2489.

Suggested donation of $1 per person.

Pre-registration is not required for individuals and families. Groups are encouraged to call ahead.

Bernards Township Community Art Show – FREE EVENT

Saturday, March 19 to Sunday, April 24 from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

The 5th annual non-juried art show with a variety of media and subject

produced by Bernards Township adult residents.

The event is free

Organic Vegetable Gardening

Saturday, March 19 from 2:00 P.M. to 3:30 P.M.

Family and friends of all ages will learn the basics of vegetable gardening

and start some seeds for this year’s bounty.

Fee is $9 per person.

Woodcock Watch

Sunday, March 20 from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

Family and friends of all ages will mark the arrival of spring on a walk

through the fields and meadows of Lord Stirling Park in search of

the elusive and amorous bogsucker.

Fee is $9 per person.

Family Nature Walk – FREE PROGRAM

Sunday, March 20 from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 P.M.

Family and friends will enjoy a Naturalist-led interpretive walk

through the Great Swamp.

The program is free and pre-registration is not required.

Backyard Bears – FREE PROGRAM

Sunday, March 20 from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M.

Family and friends of all ages will learn bear etiquette and what to do if

confronted by a bear.

The program is free.
