Environmental Education Center Programs

March 28 to April 3

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature as spring arrives in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

CHILDREN & PARENT/CHILD PROGRAMS

Story Hour – FREE PROGRAM

Saturday, April 2 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Find out what's happening in Basking Ridgefor free with the latest updates from Patch.

Children ages infant to 5 with a parent will listen to a Naturalist read an

environmental-based story and enjoy a short walk on the trails of

the EEC.

The program is free.

River Rats

Saturdays, April 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 from 10:30 A.M. to 12:00 Noon

Children age 5 to 8 will enjoy a weekend learning adventure, joining a

Naturalist for a themed exploration of the Great Swamp.

Fee is $45 per person for the 5-day session.

Wild Kids

Sundays, April 3 & 10 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children age infant to 5 with a parent will cure cabin fever on an

exploration of the Great Swamp using the five senses to explore

the natural world.

Fee is $14 per pair for the 2-day session and $7 per additional child.

ADULT & FAMILY PROGRAMS

Jamaica Bay, Mon

Wednesday, March 30 from 8:30 A.M. to 8:30 P.M.

Adult birders will enjoy a day at Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Brooklyn, NY. The urban refuge is a prime birding spot where thousands of water, land, and shorebirds stop during migration.

Fee is $65 per person.

Salamander Adventure at Lord Stirling Park

Saturday, April 2 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:30 P.M.

Family and friends of all ages will enjoy a hike around Lord Stirling Park

in search of salamanders running across the rocks and logs.

Fee is $9 per person.

Family Nature Walk – FREE PROGRAM

Sunday, April 3 from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 P.M.

Family and friends will enjoy a Naturalist-led interpretive walk

through the Great Swamp.

The program is free and pre-registration is not required.

Bluebird Walk

Sunday, April 3 from 2:00 P.M. to 3:30 P.M.

Family and friends of all ages will join a Naturalist for a walk on the trails

of Lord Stirling Park to seek the beautiful eastern bluebird on its

spring migration.

Fee is $9 per person.
