Environmental Education Center Programs

August 29 to September 4, 2016

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

PARENT/CHILD PROGRAMS

Serpentine of Mine

Monday, August 29 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children ages infant to 5 with a parent will enjoy a walk through the Great Swamp to seek out snakes and learn the role that they play in the ecology of the area.

Turtle Power

Friday, September 2 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children ages infant to 5 with a parent will participate in hands-on

activities to learn all about the incredible turtle.

Fee is $10 per pair and $5 per additional child..

ADULT & FAMILY PROGRAMS

Passaic Paddle

Monday, August 29 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.

Paddlers will enjoy a relaxed trip through the Great Swamp Basin, flowing through floodplain forest and many unique wetland habitats.

Fee is $30 per person.

Birding at Buck

Tuesday, August 30 from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.

Adult birders will meet a Naturalist to Leonard J. Buck Garden in Far

Hills for a morning of bird watching in these extraordinary

gardens.

Fee is $12 per person.

Family Nature Walk – FREE PROGRAM

Saturday, September 3 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Family and friends will enjoy a Naturalist-led interpretive walk

through the Great Swamp.

The program is free and pre-registration is not required.

Passaic Paddle

Sunday, September 4 from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.

Paddlers will enjoy a relaxed trip through the Great Swamp Basin, flowing through floodplain forest and many unique wetland habitats.
