Environmental Education Center Programs

Programs October 3 to 9, 2016

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

CHILDREN & TEEN PROGRAMS

River Rats

Saturdays, October 8, 15, 22, and 29 from 10:30 A.M. to 12:00 Noon

Children age 5 to 8 will enjoy a weekend learning adventure, joining a

Naturalist for a themed exploration of the Great Swamp.

Fee is $36 per person for the 4-day session.

PARENT/CHILD PROGRAMS

Young Explorers Club

Mondays, October 3, 17, 24 and 31 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children age infant to 5 with a parent will experience the wonders of

nature through outdoor activities that stimulate the five senses.

Fee is $30 per pair and $15 per additional child for the 4-day session.

Bones, Bones, Bones

Wednesday, October 5 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children age infant to 5 with a parent will learn about creatures whose

bones are on the inside and on the outside.

ADULT & FAMILY PROGRAMS

Birding at Skillman Park

Monday, October 3 from 12:30 P.M. to 4:30 P.M.

Adult birders will join a Naturalist at the Park Commission’s newest

general use park to find out which birds are calling it home.

Forest Fitness

Tuesdays, October 4, 11, 18, and 25 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M.

Adults are invited to join a weekly walking group, enjoying nature along

the level trails of Lord Stirling Park.

Field Trips for the Fun at Heart- American Museum of Natural History

Wednesday, October 5 from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M.

Adults will enjoy a Naturalist-guided field trip to New York’s American Museum of Natural History to attend a special exhibition, visit the

Butterfly Conservatory or take a glimpse into the Dark Universe

with Neil deGrasse Tyson, and more.

Fee is $70 per adult & $60 per senior.

Healthy Herbs – NEW!

Saturday, October 8 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.

Family and friends of all ages will join a Naturalist to discuss various

herbs, sampling a snack with tasty herbs, planting seeds for a home

herb garden, and making a salve for improving the health of skin.

Fee is $35 per person.

Sunday Forest Fitness

Sundays, October 9, 16, 23, and 30 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M.

Adults are invited to join a Sunday morning walking group, enjoying

nature along the level trails of Lord Stirling Park.

Family Nature Walk – FREE PROGRAM

Sunday, October 9 from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 P.M.

Family and friends will enjoy a Naturalist-led interpretive walk

through the Great Swamp.

The program is free and pre-registration is not required.
