Environmental Education Center Programs

November 14 to 20, 2016

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

CHILDREN & TEEN PROGRAMS

The Green Team – FREE PROGRAM

Saturday, November 19 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.

Children ages 12 to 15 - Is natural science a subject you find interesting?

Find out what's happening in Basking Ridgefor free with the latest updates from Patch.

Do you like the outdoors? Is the Great Swamp a place you like to

visit? If so, join the Environmental Education Center Naturalists

and contribute your talents to fun and educational projects and

special events.

PARENT/CHILD PROGRAMS

Hibernation Migration

Friday, November 18 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children ages infant to 5 with a parent will join a Naturalist to find out

which animals will hang around for winter, which will head out of

town, and which will hibernate.

Fee is $10 per pair & $5 per additional child

Story Hour – FREE PROGRAM

Saturday, November 19 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children ages infant to 5 with a parent will listen to a Naturalist read an

environmental-based story and enjoy a short walk on the trails of

the EEC.

The program is free.

ADULT & FAMILY PROGRAMS

Field Trips for the Fun at Heart - Bobolink Dairy & Bakehouse

Tuesday, November 15 from 9:30 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.

Adults will join a Naturalist on a day trip to Bobolink that specializes on

100% grass-fed raw milk cheeses, wood-fired breads made from

heritage grains, and pasture raised meats. Participants will walk

through the pastures, learn proper loaf forming techniques, and

bake a baguette.

Fee is $50 per adult and $40 per senior.

Meadowlands Mystery Birding Tour

Thursday, November 17 from 9:30 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.

Adult birders will head to the Meadowlands to seek out migratory waders,

ducks, and winter raptors with the New York skyline as a

backdrop.

Fee is $40 per adult and $30 per senior.

Thanksgiving for the Animals

Saturday, November 19 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M.

Family and friends of all ages will learn what they can do to help animals

survive the cold and snow of winter in this hands-on class.

Origami Birds

Saturday, November 19 from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M.

Family and friends age 8 and older with a parent will receive an

introduction to the ancient art of paper folding.

Twilight Walks – NEW! – FREE PROGRAM

Saturday, November 19 from 4:00 P.M. to 5:30 P.M.

Family and friends of all ages will join a Naturalist in search of

crepuscular (active during twilight) residents that live in Lord

Stirling Park.
