Ezra Zachary Keough, 22, earned a Bachelor's degree with a Major in Engineering Studies and a Minor in Architecture from Lafayette College, Easton PA in May 2017.
Through rigorous training and dedication, Ezra excelled at Lafayette College's undergraduate program.
During his freshman year of college, Ezra was chosen to be part of a board of college students with Type 1 diabetes. This group of young adults shared their experience of living on a college campus while also managing living with this disease. Ezra had to answer questions asked by parents and in-coming freshman about a variety of subjects: living day-to-day, drinking alcohol, etc. Ezra states, “ It was a privilege to help these students and parents to be at ease on a college campus while maintaining a healthy and safe life style, considering it was many students first time away from home.” The presentation was hosted by Goryeb Children’s Hospital at Morristown Memorial Hospital, in Morristown, NJ.

Ezra’s major of Engineering Studies allowed him to pursue additional business courses in addition to his engineering courses, therefore, best preparing him for his career. While at Lafayette, Ezra also enjoyed the many architecture courses that the college had to offer and thus, ended up pursuing a minor in Architecture. Furthermore, the Engineering Studies curriculum allowed him the opportunity to take the course Sustainable Solutions. This course proved to be an extremely beneficial one for an engineer student. This hands-on course permits students to explore the multifaceted subject of Engineering. One focus of this course included participation in the collaboration called, The “KSAT Musical Playground."
Mr. Keough was chosen to be the Communications and Informational Manager for the “Musical Fence” portion of the "Playground Project”. After many preliminary calculations, group meetings, diagrams, and models of the musical fence, Ezra and his classmates completed this interactive project that will serve the Easton PA community and should be completed in the Fall 2017. This was an invaluable experience on many levels and proved to be filled with real life lessons of seeing this comprehensive project come to fruition.

On campus, he was also able to express his innate ability to serve and assist others through his active membership with Lafayette's Chi Phi fraternity. The members of Chi Phi elected Ezra as the fraternity's Chapter Historian. Ezra quickly became very involved in supporting the growth of Chi Phi through outreach programs and events, as well as inspiring a spirit of giving back to the Lafayette community.
To continue his interest in living a healthy lifestyle, Ezra initiated The Diabetes/Wellness Club during his Senior Year at Lafayette College. His dedication to healthy living and fitness is reflected in his website and outreach organization, TackleJuvenileDiabetes.com.
Also during his Senior Year, Ezra was chosen, along with a few fellow classmates, to present their engineering project to the college's President and the Board of Trustees. At this annual meeting for Engineering students, he sat at the head table which gave him the chance to not only discuss his project in detail, but to also discuss a collection of his ideas about the college from a student's perspective.
Throughout Mr. Keough’s four years attending Lafayette College, he had two papers published in the prestigious Lafayette Magazine. On March 5, 2014, during Ezra's sophomore year, his first article published in the magazine entitled, Ezra Keough ’17 Encourages Type 1 Diabetes Patients to Live with No Limits. This article recorded his experience as a College student at Lafayette living with Type 1 diabetes.
His second article was published in the Summer 2017 issue of the Lafayette Magazine. This full-page article was featured on the back cover of the magazine. It highlighted Ezra's response to a story previously published in the Magazine about World War II veteran Robert Johnstone, a 19 year-old Lafayette student stationed in the Philippines, who was killed in action. Robert Johnstone’s parents created a scholarship fund in his memory, for a Japanese student at Lafayette College in hopes of fostering peace. Interestingly enough, Ezra’s grandfather, Henry Keough, was stationed in Japan when Robert Johnstone was killed and news of the scholarship spread throughout the troops. Henry Keough was very impressed with this "Act of Love" and wrote home to his family to tell them about it. As it so happens, Ezra and his dad had previously read through and chronicled these letters and recently came upon this specific letter. Therefore as a response to the Johnstone article, Ezra wrote this follow-up article, therefore, stressing how Acts of Love can truly conquer Acts of Hate and anger. Here is the link to this article, (honoring Ezra’s grandfather, Henry Keough).
Ezra Keough is currently employed full-time by PS&S in Warren NJ, A multi-disciplined, award-winning, full-service engineering, design, and environmental consulting firm.
