Far Hills Race Meeting Donates To Help Charities, Cancer Patients

Far Hills Race Meeting and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset have set up a patient fund to cover costs for cancer patients.

FAR HILLS, NJ — Since launching the infamous steeplechase horse race 99 years ago the Far Hills Race Meeting is continuing to give back to local charities and recently expanded to help even more locals.

Each year money is donated to charities including Cancer Support Community Central in Bedminster, Bonnie Brae School in Basking Ridge, The Arc of Somerset County in Manville, Community in Crisis in Bernardsville, and Life Camp in Pottersville.

The Race Meeting has also been working with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Somerset to make a life-saving difference through the hospital’s patient fund by donating close to $20 million to the hospital’s Steeplechase Cancer Center.

With those donations, the Race Meeting has been able to help fund a new ambulance for the hospital also with the construction of new wings, according to Guy Torsilieri, the Chairmen of The Far Hills Race Meeting.

Taking this even further Torsilieri said the meeting started a patient care fund to help "cancer patients going through treatments that have huge needs that can’t be met through insurance."

The fund helps to cover the costs of wigs, prosthesis, paying electric bills, providing rides to and from treatment, buying groceries, or even a new bed, Torsilieri said.

"The stuff we are doing is incredible," Torsilieri said. "It really impacts the patients."

Due to the success of the patient fund, Torsilieri said the Race Meeting has already committed to funding the patient fun for next year as well.
