Fire Engulfs Basking Ridge Home Friday

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A fire that engulfed a home in the Liberty Corner section of Bernards Township on Friday night took about four hours for firefighters to bring under control, said Ron DePasquale, chief of the Liberty Corner Fire Company.

The two-alarm fire broke out at around 4:30 p.m. the day after Thanksgiving at 180 Somerville Road, DePasquale said.

Firefighters from as many as nine other surrounding towns were also called to help the Liberty Corner Fire Company.

The fire was officially placed under control around 8:30 p.m. and the cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Bernards Township Fire Prevention Bureau and the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety.

The homeowner was home at the time but was able to escape. There were no reported injuries, DePasquale said.

Help was provided by the Far Hills-Bedminster Fire Department, Lyons Fire Department, Bernardsville Fire Department, Mt. Bethel Fire Department (Warren Township), Pottersville Fire Department, Peapack Gladstone Fire Department, Chester Boro Fire Department, and the Morris Plains Fire Department for an Air Truck.

Also on scene were Somerset County Mutual Aid Fire and EMS Coordinators, Morris County Fire Mutual Aid Coordinator, Bernards Township Fire Official, Bernards Twp Fire Inspector, Liberty Corner First Aid Squad, Far Hills-Bedminster First Aid Squad.

Station coverage was provided by Basking Ridge Fire Company #1, Martinsville Fire Department, and Morris Twp Fire Department among others.
