Forest Fire Burning To Take Place In Basking Ridge

The primary purpose of prescribed burning in New Jersey is to reduce the hazardous accumulations of forest fuels, the NJ Fire Service said.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — The New Jersey Fire Service will hold a forest fire prescribed burning on Thursday in Basking Ridge, NJ Department of Environmental Protection announced.

The burning will take place off Lord Sterling Road in the park area. Prescribed burning is also scheduled for Ringwood State Park in Passaic County.

This schedule is weather dependent and subject to change.

The primary purpose of prescribed burning in New Jersey is to reduce the hazardous accumulations of forest fuels. This aids in the prevention of wildfires, reduces the intensity of the fires, and also provides a foundation for safer, more effective fire suppression and protection operations, according to the NJ Fire Service.
