The man was "nearly killed" after a 15-year-old from Bonnie Brae assaulted and drove over him at the Delta Gas Station in November: Police.
BASKING RIDGE, NJ —A fundraiser has been set up for a Basking Ridge man after he was "nearly killed" when police say a 15-year-old from Bonnie Brae reportedly assaulted and drove over the resident during a carjacking in November.
"The attack left him severely injured, lying under another car, fighting for his life," said Christopher P., who set up the GoFundMe fundraising website for his father Blas.
"My dad suffered 10 broken ribs, a broken ankle, 18 deep flesh wounds, severe facial scars, a deformed dominant hand, the loss of a tooth, several chipped teeth, and countless other injuries. He also lost all the flesh on the upper part of his face. For over two months, he was hospitalized, unable to walk or use his dominant hand," said Christopher.

Blas is now recovering at home with the help of a stay-in nurse yet he still is facing significant challenges.
"He has limited mobility, permanent facial scarring, and remains unable to use his dominant hand — preventing him from returning to work, if ever. As a result, he is behind on income and struggling to cover basic living expenses," according to the GoFundMe.

"Your generosity will provide my dad with the stability he needs to focus on his recovery without the added stress of financial burdens. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference," according to the GoFundMe.

Officers were told that a 15-year-old juvenile had tried to steal a vehicle after assaulting the driver (a Bernards Township adult male resident), who was outside of his vehicle putting air in his tires, said authorities.
The juvenile hit the driver and then got into the vehicle, said McDonald.
As the juvenile reversed the vehicle, the victim and another person — who were trying to gain control of the vehicle — fell backward.
The juvenile then accelerated forward, running over the victim who had fallen to the ground, said McDonald.
The victim was caught underneath the vehicle before it came to a stop.
Gas station attendants were able to help by jacking up the vehicle to allow the victim to be removed and he was taken to an area hospital to undergo emergency lifesaving treatment for his extensive injuries.
Detectives from the Bernards Township Police Department, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and members of the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office (CART) Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team are investigating.
The 15-year-old juvenile was arrested and charged with first-degree carjacking, first-degree robbery, second-degree aggravated assault, third-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, third-degree possession of a weapon, fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and fourth-degree assault by auto.
