Happy New Year! : The Songbirds Celebrate the Year of the Pig
In order to celebrate Chinese New Year, the Songbird volunteer group made a stunning window display at the Bernard's Township Library
On Wednesday February 6, the Songbird volunteer group got together once again to celebrate the Lunar Year of the Pig. In doing so they created a beautiful window display that accentuated Chinese legends, foods, and traditions that occur during this time of year.
They begun constructing the display right after school, carrying boxes upon boxes of supplies, which included red envelopes, lanterns, chopsticks, and model figures. It took about 3 hours of sweat, tears, (and lots of clear masking tape) to bring their ideas to fruition. It is also the help of Ms. Ruth Lufkin, and Ms. Ann Babits that have continuously supported the Songbird in designing these displays for years, and for that they are incredibly grateful.
The former president of Songbird, Charlize Chen has been participating in this tradition since the 7th grade, now as a senior going off to college, she regrets having to give up on this tradition, but happy that there will be others to carry this responsibility after her. One of which being the vice-president of Songbird, Humphrey Chen, who has partaken in this tradition since the 4th grade. He, and all of Songbird hopes to continue to decorate this display every year for as long as they can. The Songbird volunteer group is more than happy to participate in this cultural exchange, and enjoy giving back to their community. But we can't forget the director of the Bernard's township library, Ms. Ruth Lufkin, and librarian Ms. Ann Babits, who have continuously supported the Songbird in designing these displays for years, and for that they are incredibly grateful.
