Help Feed Former Homeless Veterans In Basking Ridge
The 'Buy A Veteran A Burger' fundraiser was set up to help veterans at the Lyons VA Valley Brook complex enjoy a Memorial Day BBQ/Picnic.
BASKING RIDGE, NJ — In an effort to help feed former homeless veterans, Basking Ridge's Mr. Local History is collecting donations to help towards a Memorial Day BBQ/Picnic for them.
"I was blown away... when I went to meet the vets and talk. With most on disability fixed income and this insane inflation, many of these vets are running out of money mid-month and not being able to afford food. So they just don't eat," said Brooks Betz, Basking Ridge's official historian and founder of the Mr. Local History Project 501c3 non-profit charity.
Brooks said he started this campaign because he loves burgers, loves vets, and saw a sign at John's Meat Market in Scotch Plains asking patrons to donate to 'Help Buy A Veteran A Burger.'

All of the money raised will help veterans at the Lyons VA Valley Brook complex who will be having a BBQ on May 28.
"Your donation will feed our Veterans as we will honor their service to our country," said Betz. "They will celebrate this somber holiday with joy, while keeping in their hearts and minds the true meaning of this day. So let's feed a lot of Vets!"

Betz is looking to raise $3,500 with any additional funds to be used to continue to feed the veterans throughout the rest of the year.
"The VA is in our hometown and we can make a difference," said Betz.
