Basking Ridge Burglary Report Spurs K-9, Police Helicopter Search

A State Police helicopter and K-9 officers from Warren, Hillsborough and Somerset County Sheriff's Office helped search the area.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A Basking Ridge resident walked in during a possible burglary in their home on Tuesday night, police said.

At around 6:40 p.m. a 40 block of Bernard Drive resident said they came home and noticed an unfamiliar unoccupied vehicle parked in front of their home.

When the homeowner went inside the home they saw the back door was open and the light in the basement was on, Bernards Township Police Lt. Jon Burger said.

The homeowner became concerned, left the home and called police. The homeowner also noticed the car parked in front of their home was also missing when they went outside, Burger said.

Along with Bernards Township Police, K-9 officers from Warren Township, Hillsborough Township, and the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office all came to help search for any of the possible burglars.

The State Police Aviation Unit also used a helicopter to help search. No one was found, Burger said.

"Only the belief that the suspects may have still been in the area prompted the calls to other agencies," Burger said.

Police also found the front door of the home was forced open and at this time the homeowner is not sure what if anything was taken from inside, Burger said.

Anyone with information should contact the Bernards Township Police at 908-766-1122.
