SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — 2020 is right around the corner and with the new year and new decade about to start many government officials are looking ahead.

Newly-elected Freeholder Melonie Marano's 2020 New Year resolution is to have an open, transparent and inclusive government.

"Soon to be Freeholder Director Shanel Robinson and soon to be Deputy Director Freeholder Sara Sooy and I all share the mindset of open, transparent, and inclusive government. We look forward to working together as a team with the whole Freeholder Board in making this vision a reality, starting with ensuring that all board and committee appointments are done in a fair process with resumes/bios for each individual reviewed and kept on file," Marano said.

"Education, the economy and the environment were all pillars of my campaign, and I will continue to focus my attention on these areas for the good of all Somerset County residents, visitors and workers. I'm excited to start the job, and look forward to my swearing in on Jan. 3," Marano said.

Democrat Marano edged out Republican incumbent Patricia L. "Pat" Walsh in a very close Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders race with 35,113 votes over 34,791.
