Incoming Somerset County Sheriff Darrin Russo's 2020 New Year resolution is to combat the rise in hate crimes, and the opioid epidemic.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — 2020 is right around the corner and with the new year and new decade about to start many government officials are looking ahead.
Incoming Somerset County Sheriff Darrin Russo's 2020 New Year resolution is to be part of the community.
"My 2020 resolution is to reach out to the community. To be a part of the community. Forming teams of officers to combat the rise in hate crimes, and the opioid epidemic. Working with local law enforcement on quality of life issues for all residents," Russo said.

Russo, a Democrat, edged out Republican William "Bill" Parenti for the win in a very heated and close contested Somerset County Sheriff race.
Russo had 36,372 votes while Parenti had 33,798 in the November election.
