Animal Cruelty Investigated After Injured Dog Found In Somerset County

The cause of the dog's injuries was due to neglect and cruelty to this dog, according to Peapack & Gladstone Police.

PEAPACK & GLADSTONE, NJ — A case of animal cruelty is being investigated after authorities found an injured dog in Peapack & Gladstone.

On April 2 at about 4:53 a.m., the Peapack & Gladstone Police got a call about an injured animal laying on a resident's back porch trying to get inside.

Police were able to keep the German Shepherd contained before Kate from Bernards Township Animal Control came to get the dog, said police.

The dog appeared to be suffering from injuries possibly obtained by another animal and was taken to a local veterinarian where it was evaluated and treated.

The veterinarian determined that the dog was not attacked by another animal and the cause of its injuries was due to neglect and cruelty, said police.

"It is unclear where the dog came from at this time and it is currently being investigated by our department," said Sergeant Thomas Scanlon.

Anyone with any knowledge of where this dog came from is asked to reach out to the Police Department, specifically Detective Caruso. Anonymous tips are welcomed.

"A special thank you to Kate and Michelle from Bernards Township Animal Control for responding immediately to provide care for him. They often do behind the scenes work that goes unrecognized."
