Italian Day at RHS

Students celebration Italian culture.

On June 6, 2018, Ridge High School students organized Italian Day. The event celebrated the Italian culture, heritage, and community with all students, teachers, and administrators. Students in the Italian program brought Italy to life in the school with decorations from Italian masterpieces and famous buildings, by wearing Italian flag (green, white, and red) outfits, by eating an Italian breakfast with cappuccino and espresso, listening and dancing to Italian music, making pasta, playing bocce and soccer games.

The highlight of the day was the incredible spread of traditional Italian antipasto, pizza, pasta, and cookies prepared by the Italian students. Classmates and staff members tasted, savored, and voted for the best pizza and desserts. Winners of each category received prizes generously donated by local businesses. We would like to thank our local businesses:

A&S Italian Food Store & Deli, Gillette
Biagio’s Bakery, Gillette
M&M Perrotti's Butcher Shop, Basking Ridge
Soup Shoppe, Basking Ridge
Soul Sisters Boutique, Basking Ridge
The Cafe @ Liberty Cycle, Basking Ridge

The event raised $300 to support the victims of the volcanic eruption in Guatemala.

On June 11, 2018, we celebrated the academic accomplishments of the Italian students who competed in the National Italian Exam, William Paterson Poetry Competition, and students who received the Seal of Biliteracy Award from the State of New Jersey. The seal of Biliteracy is a new and prestigious honor conveyed to high school students completing a series of rigorous qualifications to be certified as literate in two or more languages.

We are extremely grateful for our students, their commitment to the Italian learning, as well as our supportive community!
