
The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center, located at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge, New Jersey has opened registration for two January science and nature programs, one after school on Mondays and one on Saturday mornings.
KinderNats is designed and geared for children age 5 to 7 who love being outdoors. This afterschool series will get them outside to study science and explore the natural world. These Junior Naturalists will be engaged through hiking, activities and more. Each week will focus on a different seasonal theme. Please be dressed for all kinds of weather. The sessions are scheduled for Mondays, January 4, 11, and 25, 2016 from 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. Fee is $18 per person for the 3-day session.
River Rats are children age 5 to 8 who will join a Naturalist for an exciting weekend experience on Saturday mornings, hiking, observing, interacting with live animals, creating crafts, and exploring the Great Swamp. River Rats will focus on a new and different theme every month. The January River Rats will convene on Saturdays, January 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 from 10:30 A.M. to 12: 00 Noon. Fee for the 5-session program is $45 per child.

Registration and payment for either program may be made on-line at www.somersetcountyparks.org, in-person at the Environmental Education Center, via mail, or by telephone (if using a credit card) at 908-766-2489. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center is located within Lord Stirling Park, in Basking Ridge and is nestled within 450 acres of the western portion of the Great Swamp Basin of the Passaic River. A swamp vivarium, and an environmentally based library are located within the Center itself.

Blue “BOBO (Buy One - Bring One) Fridays” bins now are located at the Environmental Education Center and Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge, as well as at the Somerset County Park Commission headquarters at North Branch Park in Bridgewater. The public is invited to drop off canned food or personal-care items for donation to Somerset County food banks.
