Kitchen Blaze Sparks In Basking Ridge, Leaves Homeowner Displaced
A fire believed to have started in the kitchen damaged a Summit Drive home and left the resident displaced, said Fire Chief Ron DePasquale.
BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A kitchen fire on Monday damaged a Basking Ridge home and left the homeowner temporarily displaced, said Liberty Corner Fire Chief Ron DePasquale.
At around 2:20 p.m., Liberty Corner Fire Company was called to a home on Summit Drive for a fire believed to have started in the kitchen.
The homeowner, who was home at the time, "tried to use the fire extinguisher, but wasn't able to put the fire out," said DePasquale to Patch.

The homeowner was able to get out without injuries.
DePasquale said the fire was contained to the kitchen with extension to the outside and up into an attic space.

The homeowner will be displaced for at least some period of time while smoke and other damage are addressed.
Mutual aid was provided by fire departments, including Bernardsville, Basking Ridge, Lyons, Far Hills, Peapack-Gladstone, and Warren.
DePasquale said mutual aid is especially helpful during daytime calls and described the incident as "a relatively smooth operation."
The Liberty Corner Fire Company is comprised of more than 65 volunteers and is responsible for providing fire and rescue service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to the Liberty Corner section of Bernards Township. They have been providing free volunteer fire and rescue service to the Liberty Corner community since 1910.
