Kite Flying, Nature Walks, and Other Upcoming Programs at Environmental Education Center

The following programs will take place from August 9 - 15.

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonder and the beauty of nature as summer takes hold in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many programs for children and adults year around intended to entertain and educate.

Into the Wind: Kites at Duke Island
Tuesday, August 10 from 10:30 A.M. to 12:00 Noon
Children ages 4 to 6 and a parent will make their own kite and use
parachutes, weather vanes, wind socks, soap bubbles and other
wind driven items to discover the science of the wind.
Fee is $15 per pair and $8 per additional child.

Marshmullers - Tadpoles
Wednesday, August 11 thru Friday, August 13 from 9:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.
Children ages 4 to 6 will enjoy a three-day program focusing on the world of plants
and animals. Activities will include expeditions to the fields,
forests, and ponds and will include crafts, projects, games, and
stories.
Fee is $40 per person

Nectar Sippers
Saturday, August 14 from 2:30 P.M. to 3:30 P.M.
Children ages 3 to 5 with a parent will learn which animals drink nectar
and what tools they use to accomplish the feat.
Fee is $10 per pair and $5 per additional child

FAMILY & ADULT PROGRAMS

Whitewater Challenge
Thursday, August 12 to Sunday, August 15
Experienced adult paddlers will head to Deerfield River in Massachusetts
for camping and whitewater kayaking on a Class II river near
Charlemont.
Fee is $225 per person

A Walk to Remember
Sunday, August 15 from 5:30 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
Adults will enjoy a Naturalist-led hike through the Great Swamp
observing the swamp's cycles through the year. Participants should
bring a journal to record what you see and to reflect on the
monthly changes found on subsequent hikes.
Fee is $9 per person.
