Local ShopRites to Raise Funds for Autism Research and Awareness

Bernardsville and Stirling ShopRite supermarkets among participants in fundraiser to begin this weekend.

ShopRite supermarkets in Bernardsville and the Stirling section of Long Hill Township are among the 29 ShopRites owned by Village Super Market Inc., that this Sunday will begin a "Light It Up Blue" campaign to raise funds for autism research and better awareness of the condition.

Village Super Market Inc, will join together with the organization Autism Speaks to support funding for research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism, said a news release from ShopRite.

Starting this Sunday, all of Village’s ShopRites will sell “Light It Up Blue” t-shirts for $10 and the Autism Puzzle Piece for a donation of $1 or $5. All proceeds will go directly to Autism Speaks.

The "Light It Up Blue" joint effort by ShopRite and Autism Speaks also will seek to increase awareness of autism spectrum disorders and advocate for needs of individuals with autism, as well their families and caregivers. Autism Speaks’ mission is to change the future of all who struggle with autism spectrum disorders, the release said.

Other participating ShopRites include those in Hillsborough, Watchung and Morris Plains, the release said.
