Make Handmade Planters At Leonard J. Buck Garden's ‘Hypertufa Workshop'

FAR HILLS, NJ — Learn how to create a rustic handmade trough-planter at the “Hypertufa Workshop.”

Hypertufa is a manmade material resembling rugged, porous volcanic rock called tufa rock. The Hypertufa Workshop will take place from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 9, at Leonard J. Buck Garden, 11 Layton Road, Far Hills, NJ.

The cost is $50 and includes all materials. The class size is limited. Participants should prepare to get dirty and wear appropriate clothing. Preregistration is required.

Hypertufa is made out of lightweight porous materials consisting of cement, peat moss, sand or other lightweight materials. These charming hypertufa trough planters are ideal for showcasing small alpine and miniature plants. Participants will receive instructions and participate in a hands-on workshop to create a planter-trough to bring home.

Leonard J. Buck Garden
is one of the premier rock gardens in the eastern United States and developed in the 1930s as part of the Leonard J. Buck estate. Since then, the garden has reached a breathtaking point of maturity. The estate is set in alpines and woodland gardens situated in a 33-acre valley of woods and streams. Mrs. Helen Buck donated the garden to the Somerset County Park Commission in 1976.
