Man Hit, Killed By NJ Transit Train In Somerset County

Transit officials said the pedestrian was hit by a Gladstone Branch train on Monday.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A man died after being hit by a NJ Transit train near the Basking Ridge station on Monday night.

On Dec. 18 at around 2:54 p.m., Gladstone Branch train 421 hit and fatally injured an adult male pedestrian just west of Basking Ridge station, transit officials said.

The man has not yet been identified.

The train had left Hoboken at 1:22 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Gladstone at 3:19 p.m.

There were no injuries reported to the about 10 customers or crew on board.

Service was temporarily suspended on the Gladstone Branch line in both directions between Bernardsville and Stirling, but has since resumed.

New Jersey Transit Police are leading the investigation.
