What is hope? Where can we find hope? The need for hope is evidence that we live in a fallen, broken world filled with dark places. It is found in the cries of a child who has lost a parent, felt in our bodies as disease rages, seen on various media sources as war engulfs nations We have all been touched by the bitter sting of the fall… and we long for hope. But in our desperation, we cling to people or things or circumstances, believing they can save the day. Too often we have been let down by what we have placed our hope in. Without thinking we grasped onto a promise that seemed good… but was quickly broken. In that sense, our understanding of hope needs to be refined, because we hope in the wrong things.
Lee Stroble said “Hope is the inextinguishable flicker God ignites in our souls… when we are surrounded by utter darkness.” With so many promises of hope, there is only one place we can go that will not disappoint. Jesus’ disciples must have felt helpless and alone at the crucifixion, wondering where to turn for hope. Only three days later, God showed them that he is the only one who always keeps his promises. Do you need hope? Have you trusted in things or people who have promised to bring you happiness, but were let down? Join us on Easter Sunday as we talk about how to refine our understanding of hope. And in the end, true hope is only found in the resurrection power of the Gospel and the light of an empty tomb.
Easter Service will begin at 10:30am. Note that Adult, Children and Youth Sunday School classes will not meet. Children Kindergarten and above will attend the worship service with their parents. Childcare for nursery through preschool will be provided. The Shuttle is available from Dewy Meadow 9:30-11:45am.
