Mindfulness Across Languages

RHS Sign Language classes participate in yoga.

On April 19, 2018, Ridge High School students enrolled in American Sign Language I and II were able to participate in a thirty-minute yoga session in American Sign Language. Their teacher, Mrs. Jennifer Kang, invited Ms. Geeta Sagar, a Deaf yoga instructor for the NJ/NY area. Students learned different breathing techniques, as well as beginner and intermediate poses. After the yoga session, students were asked Ms. Sagar questions about her life, language learning process, and her contributions to the Deaf community through her ASL-only yoga classes. The yoga session provided students with not only the benefit of interacting with a member of the Deaf community, but also a time to decompress from the stresses from their rigorous academic schedules. Namaste.
