Missing Basking Ridge Child Found, Arrested In Berkeley Heights
A child who went missing from a residential school within Bernards Township was later found in Berkeley Heights.
BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A missing child from Bernards Township has been found and arrested in Berkeley Heights.
On Monday, the Bernards Township Police Department sent out an alert about a juvenile who went missing from a residential school in the Township.
The child was hours later found at a family member's home in Berkeley Heights but fled before Berkeley Heights Police arrived, said Berkeley Heights Police.

Berkeley Heights Patrolman Michael Klimek stopped a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Bernards Township earlier that same day, said police.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as the missing child.

An investigation reportedly found that the juvenile had also shoplifted items from Walgreens and CVS stores in Berkeley Heights before being found by the police.
The juvenile was taken into custody and placed under arrest.
Following a medical examination, the juvenile was released to the custody of guardians. Pending charges include receiving stolen property and shoplifting.
