The Most Wonderful Time of the Year: Songbird's Holiday Gift
On December 10th, the Songbird donated presents to the local toy drive and swept the streets of Finley Avenue, the road they adopted.
The excitement of autumn begins to dwindle down, and the notions of falls leaves and pumpkins begin to fade as the holiday season arrives. Houses on the block are shining brightly with lights, family and friends are reuniting under the falling snow, and every Christmas tree is patiently waiting for presents to be stored underneath it. During this time of joy and excitement for the holidays, the Songbird has not ceased to give back to the community. After the Thanksgiving serve at Plainfield and the fall leaves sweeping service, the Songbird decided to share the jubilance of the season with hall. On the morning of December 10th, seven kids and five adults from the Songbird purchased Christmas presents for a toy drive. Later in the afternoon, the youth volunteer group swept the streets of Finley Avenue.
For the toy drive, the members used their own savings to purchase presents for kids in need. During the holiday season, what makes Christmas such a cheerful holiday is waking up to find presents under the tree. The Songbird spread this feeling of gratitude and enthusiasm when they wrapped about thirty one presents. For every present, each ribbon was in place, every tag was neatly written, as the Songbird treated every gift with care. After the gift wrapping, the Songbird delivered the presents to the local Weichert Realtor’s toy drive. Gently, they placed the presents and their heartfelt holiday blessings into the box. The warm feeling of giving, for Songbird, was far better than the satisfaction of receiving.
Later in the afternoon, the Songbird swept the streets of Finley Avenue for an hour, wrapped up in a thick jackets and wearing gloves. The members carried large garbage bags, collecting tin cans, old newspapers, and food wrappers. Over the summer, the Songbird adopted the streets of Finley Avenue under the hot blazing sun. Now, the weather is the complete, but the freezing cold does not stop the Songbird from taking care of the streets. Despite the temperature, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the service, laughing and talking while cleaning the roads. Regardless of the season or the time of year, the Songbird never fails to complete the task and have an amazing time while doing so.

As the popular Christmas song goes, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year”, and that is certainly true. The Songbird realized that dedicating their day to making someone else’s better is the best christmas gift of all. No amount of presents could replace the gift of love and care that the Songbird carries in the bags as they donate to the toy drive, in the streets that they clean, and most importantly, in their hearts as they spread the true meaning of the holidays: love.
