New Police Officer Sworn In To Serve Basking Ridge
The hiring of Omar Caponpon brings the Bernards Township Police Department up to a full complement of 39 officers.
BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A new police officer was sworn in to serve Bernards Township last week.
Officer Omar Caponpon was sworn in with his family by his side on March 12 prior to the Committee meeting.
Caponpon was appointed as a full-time Patrol Officer effective March 13 with an annual salary of $55,992. His hiring brings the Bernards Township Police Department up to a full complement of 39 officers.

Caponpon, at 13 years old, along with his family came to the United States from Manila, Philippines in May 2005.
"Since then, he has embraced the challenges and opportunities of adapting to a new culture and environment. His experiences have fostered a deep appreciation for diversity, shaping his perspective and guiding his pursuit of personal and professional growth," said Police Chief Jon Burger. "Officer Caponpon’s story reflects the resilience and determination of immigrants striving to build a better future in a new homeland."

Caponpon graduated The Essex County Police Academy on Dec. 6, 2023, and was employed by the Essex County Sheriff's Office.
He is currently enrolled at Farleigh Dickinson University pursuing his bachelor’s degree in psychology with plans to continue his pursuit of a master’s degree or doctorate in same.
