BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A new principal was appointed to Cedar Hill School by the Bernards Township Board of Education.

Krissy Uhler will be moving up from Assistant Principal to Principal of Cedar Hill School at a salary of $165,943 effective July 1 through June 30, 2024.

Uhler is replacing Paul Ciempola. The Board accepted his retirement at the April 24 meeting.

This move for Uhler will mean there are two open Assistant Principal positions that need to be filled out of the 11 total in the Bernards Township School District.

The other open Assistant Principal position at William Annin Middle School will be merged with the Middle School Athletic Director position to save some money.

During the May 8 meeting, the Board voted to keep the 11 Assistant Principal positions for now as the budget for the 2023-24 school year was finalized. However, the long-term status of those positions remains uncertain.

Vice President Nimish Amin, who voted against the budget, had asked Superintendent Nick Markarian if the Board was "locked in" to keeping the positions and alluded to possibly revisiting the number of teachers or admin positions later in the year.

Board President Keith Molinari also agreed with assessing the future of the assistant principal positions.

"Next year when we see where enrollment is and where our data is then we will take another look. And going forward there is no guarantee that we will have this administrative structure," said Molinari.
