No Clown Costumes at Basking Ridge Schools

"Given the current climate, we ask that no clown costumes be worn."

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Clown costumes will not be allowed at Ridge High School and William Annin Middle School for Halloween.

The announcement was made Friday by school officials in the Halloween Costume Guidelines.

  1. All costumes must conform to the Ridge High School dress code as determined by the Ridge High School Administration.
  2. NO WEAPONS or props of any kind – real or fake.
  3. No masks or make-up – Faces must be recognizable.
  4. Administration will have students remove any costume deemed inappropriate.
  5. Given the current climate, we ask that no clown costumes be worn.

List of William Annin Middle School Halloween Costume Guidelines:

  1. Students should wear costumes that are appropriate for school and meet dress code regulations.
  2. Students must wear shoes with backs.
  3. Students may wear appropriate length costumes.
  4. Students may not wear masks that cover their face.
  5. Students may not bring props that are dangerous and/or inappropriate for school (weapons of any kind, fake blood, etc.). Props that are unacceptable will be confiscated and held in the main office for parent pick-up.
  6. Any students wearing costumes that the administration deems inappropriate for school, will be asked to change.
  7. Given the current public concern, clown costumes are not permitted to be worn.
