Originally begun as a hunting lodge by Louis XIII, Versailles soon evolved into a palace widely imitated throughout Europe. Music by Lully, Rameau, Couperin and other visiting artists such as Mozart and Gluck is given from live performances with authentic instruments.

Documentary video shows the “Sun King” (Louis XIV) walking through his new Hall of Mirrors, and his vast gardens with fountains for displays and entertainments. Footage of the private rooms of Marie Antoinette (not seen on public tours) is included, and a virtual online visit to the Royal Chapel of Versailles showcases some baroque church music.
