Township residents Rob Re and Michele Marcus placed first Sunday in the final day of the weekend's Club Championship Tournament held at the Coakley Russo Memorial Golf Course in Lyons. This was a two-day event that started with an 18-hole shootout on Saturday and continued on Sunday with the second and final round.

Players assembled for a final round under an indecisive sky. At first, it looked as if Mother Nature was going to cooperate but, as the second round began Sunday, light rain started to fall upon the players. The players continued, but as the rain intensified, the biggest obstacle became the weather instead of the fairway.

Players persevered through the completion of the tournament. Re placed first for the men series A, with a combined score of 166 for 36 holes over the two-day championship. Second place went to Scott Baach, with a score of 168. Bob Mello placed third with a score of 173.

Marcus placed first among the women's field with a combined score of 172. Jennifer Jackson followed with a score of 179. 

The men's series B ended in a tie and a sudden-death playoff between Phil Familetti and Stan Yagiello. In the end, Yagiello won the first-place trophy.

First-place winners earned an invitation to play in the N.J. Tournament of Club Champions at Eagle Oaks Club in Farmingdale, on Oct. 14 .

The Coakley Russo Memorial Golf course sponsors tournaments throughout the summer for members, mostly township residents, and their guests.
