Police, Staff Check Bernards Schools After 4.8 Magnitude Earthquake

The Bernards Township School District said Friday's will operate on its regular schedule

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — The Bernards Township School District said Friday's schedule will continue as usual after a 4.8 magnitude earthquake hit the region.

"Please be advised that we are aware that we just experienced an earthquake. All of the schools and students are currently safe. As a precaution, building walkthroughs are being conducted by police and district facility staff. Schools will complete their day as usual," according to the district website.

The quake's epicenter was about four miles north-northeast of Whitehouse Station (Readington) in New Jersey, according to the United States Geological Survey.

Bernards Township Police issued a warning to residents.

"Only contact PD or 911 for emergencies," said police.
