The Power of Knowledge from Basking Ridge to Taiwan
The Songbird Youth Volunteer Group once again devotes their entire day to the betterment of the less fortunate in Taiwan
In order to fully understand the spirit of Martin Luther King Day, the Songbird Volunteer group got to work. It took the all of the Songbird members and a consecutive 2 days, for this plan to succeed. Not to mention the severe weather conditions (it often dipped below freezing!)
With the love of giving and the warmth of friends, they were able to pack roughly 60 boxes of books. These books were separated in 5 categories. Teens, Children, Adult , Cookbooks, and occasionally CD's. That wasn't all! Each category had it's own designated color that was to be taped. Teens were blue, children were white, adults were black, and the cookbooks and CD's were green! All of these items were sourced directly from the local Basking Ridge libraries, constant trips were made back and forth to pick up the books and ship them back to the packing area.
As for the members, the majority of them were from Basking Ridge, however, they also welcomed neighbors from Livingston! Despite the different locations, everyone is able to come together and work towards a common goal.

This is only preparation for their final step. On January 27, all of the Books for Taiwan members will meet together and get all of the previously packed books. They will then package them and wrap them for the long ride to Taiwan. There are people of old and young age, however this gap will only bring them closer together as a community!
The Songbird group sees this transfer of knowledge as an opportunity to further help those in Taiwan. It can be a speech, a dream, or even a book, that will start as a seed of kindness, and the constant watering of hope will allow for that seed to turn into a blossoming flower of love.
