BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A proposal to subdivide the 179-acre Millington Quarry property into two separate lots will be heard during a public hearing Wednesday night, which is drawing concerns from local residents.

A group of residents called Stop The Quarry Plan (STQP) is urging residents to come and speak out and ask questions about the proposal during the public hearing.

The hearing will be held during the zoning board meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6 in the Bernards Township Municipal Building, Warren Craft Meeting Room, 1 Collyer Lane, in Basking Ridge.

The proposal seeks to split the property into a 50.3 acre lot and a 129.5 acres lot. No plans to build are being presented for the properties.

The quarry property on Stonehouse Road has been a hotly contested subject in the township after residents spoke out against a controversial redevelopment concept plan and new zoning proposal for the property that called for a hotel, housing, restaurants, retail stores, a farm and a lake. The opposition from residents stemmed from concerns of contamination and over development. The township committee ended up rejecting the plan last January as a result. (See Related: Basking Ridge Rejects Quarry Plan)

In January, the township committee voted to create a Quarry Advisory Task Force oversee all matters regarding the quarry property. (See Related: Basking Ridge To Create Quarry Advisory Task Force)
