Rabid Skunk Found In Local Area
Owners of cats and dogs are reminded to get their pets vaccinated and licensed to protect against the spread of rabies.
FAR HILLS, NJ — A skunk picked up on Sept. 2 has tested positive for rabies from Longview Road in the Far Hills and Bedminster area, Animal Control Solutions LLC said.

The virus is found in the saliva of rabid animals and is transmitted by bites, scratches, contamination of open cuts or through the eyes from saliva of an animal infected with rabies.

Other signs of rabies infection include disorientation, loss of appetite, and excessive irritability. However, some rabid animals do not display any signs of illness.
