Rash Of Burglaries To Unlocked Cars Over 1 Night In Basking Ridge

One Land Rover was stolen, four more cars were burglarized - all unlocked - in Bernards Township this past weekend.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A rash of car burglaries to unlocked vehicles in Bernards Township was reported over one night.

All of the burglaries were reported overnight between Friday, Aug. 27 and Saturday, Aug. 28:

  • A resident of the 60 block of Independence Drive said their unlocked 2018 silver Audi S5 had been entered by two people who rifled through the vehicle and then left the area. According to the resident, the two suspects are seen on their security video at 5:08 a.m. walking up the driveway and checking all the vehicles in the driveway handles to see if any were unlocked. No items were reported missing.
  • A resident of the 60 block of South Alward reported their unlocked 2017 black Volvo had been burglarized sometime between 11 p.m. on Aug. 27 and 11 a.m. on Aug. 28. No suspects were reported and an Ipad mini estimated at $500 was taken.
  • A resident of the 10 block of Fairview Drive East reported that their unlocked 2019 grey BMW X3 had been burglarized in their driveway. After reviewing security footage, it was determined that the burglary and theft occurred at about 3:23 a.m. on Aug. 28. A wallet containing $45 in cash and several credit cards were taken from the vehicle.
  • At about 3:53 p.m. on Aug. 28, a resident of the 20 block of Wellington Drive reported a burglary of their 2015 unlocked blue 2019 Audi Q7. Upon entering their vehicle, the resident noticed articles thrown around in the interior of the SUV. No items were reported taken.
  • At 9:16 p.m. on Aug. 28, a resident of the 40 block of Dogwood Way reported that their unlocked 2020 White Land Rover was stolen. The SUV had the key fob inside and was parked in their garage that was left open. The vehicle is valued at about $130,000.

The Bernard’s Township Police continues to remind everyone to report suspicious activity observed by calling 908-766-1122.

"Please keep vehicles locked, without the keys in them and valuables out of sight. Pay attention to suspicious activity at neighbors' homes," said police.
