Rep. Malinowski Supports Restraining Trump's Actions On Iran
"I support this resolution because passing it will protect us against going to war with a tweet," Rep. Tom Malinowski said Thursday.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — Congressman Tom Malinowski supported a resolution approved by the the House on Thursday to have President Donald Trump seek approval from Congress before engaging in further military action against Iran.
"I support this resolution because passing it will protect us against going to war with a tweet," Malinowski said on the House Floor. "But it also ensures that if we do go to war, which we may have to at some point, we will do so with the American people united not divided, as the framers intended and our national interest demands."
The Democratic-controlled House of Representatives passed the resolution with a vote of 224 to 194. Three Republicans voted in support while eight Democrats opposed the measure. "We are not safer today. And in this moment of danger, there is just one question that this Resolution asks: not do you support what the President has already done, but should Congress play our constitutional role in deciding what happens next?" Malinowski said."
The passage of this resolution comes after the killing of Iran's Revolutionary Guard commander Qassem Soleimani last week near the Baghdad airport. administration briefed lawmakers on its actions in Iran.

Malinowski is the U.S. representative for New Jersey's 7th congressional district which includes Somerset, Hunterdon, Morris, Warren and Union counties.
